The legal situation in Australia
Australia has no statutory ban on privacy coins, and holding XMR is legal. Some local exchanges, such as CoinSpot in 2020, dropped XMR. On 1 April 2026 Parliament passed a digital-asset platform licensing law that starts about 12 months after Royal Assent. Third-party trackers report Kraken restricts XMR for Australian clients, which we could not confirm on Kraken's own pages.
Key facts
