Best Monero wallets in 2026
For most people, Cake Wallet on a phone and Feather Wallet on a desktop are the best Monero wallets in October 2026. Both are free, open source and non-custodial, and both scan the blockchain on your own device. For larger amounts, pair a Ledger or Trezor with the official Monero GUI or Feather.
The short answer
A good Monero wallet keeps your keys on your device, scans the blockchain locally, lets you choose your own node and is open source. In October 2026 these wallets meet that bar and are actively maintained:
- Phone: Cake Wallet (Android and iPhone) or Monerujo (Android only).
- Desktop: Feather Wallet or the official Monero GUI.
- Multi-coin with real XMR support: Stack Wallet or Cake Wallet.
- Savings: a Ledger or Trezor used through the GUI, Feather or Cake. See Monero hardware wallets.
We are an independent guide. We are not part of the Monero Project or any wallet company, and we earn nothing from any wallet.
Comparison table (October 2026)
| Wallet | Platforms | How it syncs | Hardware wallets | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cake Wallet | Android, iOS, macOS, Linux (Windows builds paused) | Remote or own node, scans on device | Ledger; Trezor since v6.2 (5 June 2026) | Beginners on a phone |
| Feather Wallet | Windows, macOS, Linux, Tails | Remote or own node, scans on device, Tor built in | Ledger, Trezor | Desktop users who want control |
| Monerujo | Android | Remote or own node, scans on device | Ledger Nano S series via USB | Monero-only Android users |
| Monero GUI / CLI | Windows, macOS, Linux, FreeBSD | Your own full node, or a remote node | Ledger, Trezor | Maximum privacy, running a node |
| Stack Wallet | Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, Linux | Remote node, scans on device | None | Multi-coin users who care about privacy |
| ANONERO | Android | Scans on device, Tor-focused | Not documented | Advanced, privacy-first users |
All six are listed on getmonero.org, the official Monero site, either as official software or as wallets that synchronise locally.
How we judged them
Where the scanning happens
A Monero wallet cannot simply ask a server for your balance. Your incoming payments are hidden on the blockchain, and only your private view key can find them. A wallet either scans blocks on your device (good: no key leaves the phone or computer) or sends your view key to a server that scans for you (convenient, but that server can see your incoming payments). The wallets above all scan locally. Read what the view key reveals and how remote nodes work.
Open source and maintained
Open code lets independent developers check what the app does. We also looked at recent releases. Cake Wallet shipped v6.5.0 in October 2026 with Monero core 0.18.5.3. The official GUI reached 0.18.5.4, announced on getmonero.org on 16 October 2026. Feather's latest release is still v2.8.1 from 14 April 2025, which we note on its review.
Node and network privacy
A remote node cannot see your keys, but it does see your IP address and the transactions you broadcast. Wallets that let you use Tor or your own node score higher. Feather bundles Tor; Cake has built-in Tor; the GUI can run your own node.
Wallets that changed or that we do not recommend
- MyMonero closed on 6 January 2026. Your seed still works in other wallets. See how to recover MyMonero funds.
- XMRWallet.com is still online but faces serious, unresolved allegations of view-key collection and transaction tampering. We do not recommend it. See our XMRWallet review.
- Exodus ended Monero support on 18 August 2025, according to its support notice.
- Edge still supports XMR but, per getmonero.org, shares your view key with a server.

Pick by what you need
| If you... | Use |
|---|---|
| Are new and use an iPhone | Cake Wallet or Monero.com by Cake |
| Use Android and only hold XMR | Monerujo or Cake Wallet |
| Want the most privacy on a computer | Monero GUI with your own node, or Feather over Tor |
| Hold an amount you could not afford to lose | A hardware wallet, see Ledger vs Trezor for Monero |
| Cannot decide between the top three | Cake vs Feather vs Monerujo |
Safety rules for any wallet
- Type the wallet's official address yourself or use a bookmark. Phishing copies of Monero wallet sites and ads are common.
- Download from the official site, F-Droid, or the official app-store listing, and check the publisher name.
- For the GUI and CLI, verify the SHA256 hash and GPG signature. In November 2019 getmonero.org briefly served malware-laced CLI binaries, and users who skipped the check lost funds.
- Write your seed on paper. Never type it into a website, chat or "support" form.
- Monero does not announce updates by email. A May 2025 phishing campaign used a fake update site to install remote-access malware.

A note on the next upgrade
Monero's next big upgrade, FCMP++, was running on a test network (stressnet v3.0, forked on 5 October 2026) and had no mainnet date as of October 2026. When it does activate, every wallet and hardware-wallet app will need an update. Keep your wallet current and your seed safe. Background in the FCMP++ explainer.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Monero wallet for beginners?
Cake Wallet is the easiest well-maintained choice for most beginners. It runs on Android and iPhone, scans on your device, supports Polyseed and 25-word seeds, and has built-in Tor. On a computer, Feather Wallet is light and easy to set up.
Is there still a Monero web wallet?
MyMonero, the best-known one, closed on 6 January 2026. XMRWallet.com is still online but faces serious unresolved allegations, and we do not recommend it. A light app such as Cake Wallet or Feather is the safer replacement.
Do I need to run a full node?
No. Wallets like Cake, Feather and Monerujo connect to a remote node but still scan on your device, so your keys never leave it. Running your own node adds network privacy, because no third party sees your IP address or broadcasts.
Which Monero wallets support hardware wallets?
The Monero GUI and CLI, Feather and Cake Wallet support Ledger and Trezor. Monerujo supports Ledger Nano S series devices. Ledger Live and Trezor Suite do not manage XMR themselves.
Can I move my Monero to a different wallet later?
Yes. Any standard 25-word Monero seed can be restored in another Monero wallet. Polyseed (16-word) seeds work in wallets that support Polyseed, such as Cake and Feather.
