MyMonero has closed: how to get your Monero back
MyMonero shut down on 6 January 2026 and no longer shows balances or sends transactions. Your Monero is still on the blockchain: restore your MyMonero seed in another wallet such as Cake Wallet, Feather or the Monero GUI. Any site offering MyMonero today is not the original service.
Quick steps
- Find your seed. Locate the seed you wrote down when you created your MyMonero wallet. Count the words: 25 or 13.
- Install a trusted wallet. Install Cake Wallet, Feather or the Monero GUI from its official site or store, typing the address yourself.
- Choose restore. Select restore from seed, choose Monero, and set the seed type to Legacy (25 words).
- Set a restore date. Enter a date or block height a little before you first used MyMonero to speed up syncing.
- Wait for sync. Let the wallet scan the blockchain until it shows as synchronised and your balance appears.
- Consider moving to fresh keys. Optionally create a new wallet, back up its seed, and send your funds to it so no server has ever seen its view key.
What happened to MyMonero
MyMonero was the best-known Monero web wallet. It ran in a browser, on desktop and on mobile, and it synced instantly because MyMonero's servers scanned the blockchain for you using your private view key.
On 6 October 2025, a sunset was announced (Cake Wallet blog, 6 Oct 2025). The service went offline on 6 January 2026, and server data was to be destroyed within 30 days. Cake Wallet was named as the recommended successor. As of October 2026 mymonero.com says that MyMonero has closed and that you can no longer view your balance or send transactions through it.
According to Privacy Guides, MyMonero said that requiring view keys was "increasingly at odds with Monero's privacy evolution".

Your funds are not lost
MyMonero never held your coins. Your XMR sits on the Monero blockchain and is controlled by your seed. Restore that seed in a wallet that scans locally and your balance and history reappear. Cake's announcement says Cake never received MyMonero users' view keys, addresses or history, so you start fresh from your seed.
What you may lose: transaction keys and recipient details that only the MyMonero app stored. These cannot be rebuilt from the seed. If you ever need to prove an old payment, that may now be harder.
How to recover your wallet
If you have a 25-word seed
Cake Wallet's guide covers it: install Cake, choose Restore, pick Monero, change the seed type from Polyseed (16 words) to Legacy (25 words), enter the words, and set a restore date close to when you started using MyMonero. A date that is too late can miss transactions; too early just means a longer sync. Feather and the Monero GUI also restore 25-word seeds.
If you have a 13-word seed
Older MyMonero accounts used a 13-word seed (12 words plus a checksum word), which Monero's documentation describes as a variant of the legacy scheme. Mainstream wallets such as Cake may not accept it directly; one Cake forum user reported a 13-word seed failing to restore. Do not paste it into a website or an AI chatbot to "convert" it. Ask in official Monero support channels, and only use a conversion tool on an offline computer after checking it carefully.
Once restored
Because your view key was shared with MyMonero's server for years, some people prefer to create a brand-new wallet and send their funds to it. That gives you a fresh set of keys that no server has ever seen.
Why the MyMonero model is fading
A light-wallet server is fast because it does the scanning for you, but to do that it must hold your private view key. That key cannot spend, yet it reveals every payment you receive, with amounts and timing, and much of what you send. Wallets like Cake, Feather and Monerujo avoid this by scanning on your own device. The newer Skylight wallet keeps the instant-sync model but has no default server, so you run your own or use one you trust. Background: what a view key reveals.
Beware of fake MyMonero sites and apps
Scammers target people searching for MyMonero. PhishDestroy reported wallet.mymonero.co, a crypto drainer on a domain registered on 5 October 2025, the day before the sunset was announced, and listed lookalikes including wallet.mymonero.fi, wallet.myrnonero.co, mymonero.ws and wallet.mymonero.dev. Earlier, in January 2019, a fake "My Monero" app on Google Play collected private keys, and in August 2020 a cloned MyMonero site on a .co domain was promoted through Google ads.
The rule is simple: MyMonero is closed. Any site or app that offers to log you in to MyMonero today, or asks for your seed, is a scam. More in Monero scams.
