Monero Wallet Guide Best Monero wallets

Monerujo review (2026)

Monerujo is a free, open-source Monero-only wallet for Android. It scans on your phone, lets you choose or add nodes, supports the Ledger Nano S series over USB and has built-in swaps through Exolix. It is still maintained but updates are infrequent.

Verdict

Monerujo is a solid, focused Android wallet for people who only hold Monero. It does the basics well and supports a Ledger. Compared with Cake Wallet it is simpler and less actively developed, with no iOS version and no built-in Tor documented on its site.

Notable features

  • Node choice: pick from community-trusted nodes, add your own, or let NodeScan find open public nodes. See remote nodes explained.
  • Ledger: connect a Ledger Nano S series device with a USB OTG cable so the spend key stays on the device.
  • Exolix swaps: swap into and out of XMR in the app. Monerujo switched to Exolix after SideShift dropped XMR, citing liquidity.
  • OpenAlias: send to human-readable addresses.
  • CeasarSeed: an option to add an offset passphrase to your seed.

Important: wallets live inside the app's storage. Uninstalling Monerujo deletes wallets on the device, so back up your seed (and any Monerujo backup with its restore password) first.

Who it suits

  • Android users who hold only XMR and want a no-frills app.
  • Ledger owners who want to spend from a phone.
  • People who prefer installing from F-Droid.

If you also use an iPhone or want built-in Tor and background sync, Cake Wallet is the stronger choice. More options: best Monero wallet for Android.

Getting started

  1. Install Monerujo from Google Play, F-Droid or the GitHub releases linked from monerujo.app.
  2. Tap the plus button to create a new wallet, give it a name and a strong password, and write down the seed.
  3. Choose a node from the list, add your own, or run NodeScan. Pick one with a recent block height and low latency.
  4. Wait for the wallet to sync, then receive a small test amount.
  5. To use a Ledger, connect it with a USB OTG cable, open the Monero app on the device and create a wallet from the Ledger option.

Restoring a wallet from another app works the same way: choose restore from seed and enter a restore height to save time. See how to restore a Monero wallet.

Background

Monerujo has been one of the main Android Monero wallets for years, with development partly funded through Monero's community crowdfunding system. Its version 4.1.5 moved to Monero core 0.18.3.4 and added Exolix; later patch releases fixed the Exolix integration, node parsing and QR amounts.

Privacy notes

Monerujo scans on your phone, so the node you pick never receives your keys. It does see your IP address and any transaction you broadcast. Choosing a node you run yourself, or one run by someone you trust, limits that. When you use the built-in Exolix swap, Exolix sees the coins and addresses involved and applies its own terms. Swap and exchange rules differ by country, so check is Monero legal? and country guides first.

Safety notes

  1. The official site is monerujo.app. Type it yourself or use a bookmark.
  2. On Google Play, check that the developer matches the one linked from monerujo.app. Fake Monero wallet apps have appeared on Google Play before.
  3. Write your seed on paper before receiving funds.
  4. For large receipts, wait beyond the standard 10 confirmations; after the September 2025 18-block reorg, Monero researchers advised extra caution.
