How Monero fees work

Monero charges a fee per byte of transaction size. The network suggests a base fee that rises when blocks get full, and your wallet multiplies it by the priority you choose (often shown as low, normal, high or highest). A transaction with one input and two outputs (payment plus change) is about 1.5 kB, so at the usual base fee of 20,000 piconero per byte it costs about 0.00003 XMR, around two US cents at October 2026 prices. More inputs make a transaction larger and more expensive.

Fees go to miners. Received funds are spendable after 10 confirmations (about 20 minutes) whatever fee you paid; see sending Monero. For your own numbers, use the fee calculator, and for the full picture read Monero fees explained.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a Monero transaction fee?

Usually about 0.00003 XMR for a simple transaction at the base fee, a few US cents at most at October 2026 prices. The live figure is at the top of this page.

Why did my wallet charge more than this?

Your wallet may use a higher priority, or your transaction may have many inputs, which makes it bigger.

Do exchanges charge the same?

No. Exchanges set their own withdrawal fees, often much higher than the network fee.
